University Landscape 3.0

2020, Melbourne meets a pandemic of COVID-19 and humans activities have changed dramatically. Many activities in field of education and business has moved to online and the Internet is supporting the human connection. Students are able to do have online lecture, and find community that they are interested in online now. So, what should physical space in university should provide?
I believe that University landscape should provide serendipity and close relationships. University should be the place to discover new horizon and create deep human relationship. Now people can search anything what they have in their mind, and have shallow relationship at the Internet. However, discovery of new knowledge and deep conversation is available only at physical space at university landscape. Thus, I proposed to create open study are and exhibition area at the Concrete lawn.


COVID-19による変化する未来の大学ランドスケープの提案。
COVID-19の影響により、多くの行動がオンラインに移り、オンライン授業や就業の可能性が見え始めた一方、”土地”の意味は薄くなった。大学の広場は、様々な人々が集まり、食事をしたり、イベント活動をしたり、広く浅い人間関係を創る場として利用されていた。しかし、多くの人が家のパソコンからネット上で浅い交流が取れるようになった今そして今後、大学の広場の必要性はどこにあるのか。
未来の大学の広場が与えるべきものは2つある。
偶然性と深いコミュニケーション。
家のパソコンに自分の頭のないことをタイピングすることはできない。偶然新しい知識に出会い視野が広がることこそが大学が与えるべきものではないだろうか。広場を歩きながら学生の作品に触れる。広場という空間は偶然性を提供するべきである。
また、深いコミュニケーションはオンラインでは代替的し辛いものであることも分かってきた。他学生と議論し、作品を作り上げる空間や作品について熱い議論をする場所も、空間としての広場が提供するものであろう。
以上から、未来の大学広場は様々な屋外の研究室、屋外のレクチャールーム、学習空間、展示空間、映像や音声の発信が可能なスタジオを併せ持つ空間となるべきである。
